Visit the "Birthplace of North Carolina's capital city"! This site is currently owned by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of North Carolina. Joel Lane - a prominent politician and planter - built this home in 1769. The Joel Lane House now provides tours that teach visitors of all ages about the history of Wake County and Raleigh, and about everyday life in 18th century North Carolina. We also talk about the Lane family and the 43 people who were enslaved on his plantation. Tours are available Wed-Fri at 10am, 11am, 12pm, and 1pm. Please see our website for more details.
