Science is an adventure - an amazing opportunity to explore the world around us. Children naturally love to explore our world, and Summer Science Camps at Morehead Planetarium and Science Center are the perfect way to encourage your child's curiosity and intellectual growth in a fun, nurturing environment.

PLEASE NOTE: Camp spaces are assigned to campers in the order that the registration is received. Morehead's online registration system provides real-time status updates that show the spaces remaining in each camp as you register.

REGISTRATION OPENS JANUARY

SciVentures: ROVing the Universe

In this SciVentures program, you will learn about the limits of exploration and why scientists use Remote Operated Vehicles (ROVs) in places too extreme for humans. Work in teams to learn about the limits of ROV exploration and the foundations of ROV science, then design ROV solutions to complete “Mars” and “Ocean” challenges modeled on real-world missions. Finally, construct with your team your own ROV from scratch and complete a series of challenges to test your design skills.

SciVentures: Drone Zone

SciVentures: Science of Slices

Some say that the secret to good pizza is in the sauce, but the secret is really in the science! From the ingredients to the oven, explore the chemistry and techniques behind making cheese, mixing the dough, cooking sauce and preparing toppings. Learn what gluten is and how it helps pizza, taste-test cooked sauce and raw sauce and investigate the differences between local, fresh ingredients and mass-produced ingredients. Morehead’s kitchen is your lab!

This camp is not recommended for children with food allergies or food sensitivities.
