For students ages 12-15 each day of Field Station has different programs but each includes lots of time outdoors, exploring nature, doing science, and interacting with specialists in the field of environmental and earth sciences. Activities include: hands-on, feet-wet science investigations, authentic research, time for fun, and doing citizen science & stewardship projects. We are in the creeks, forest, and meadows discovering the science of our local environment and what it means to global issues, and we have fun doing it! Students are grouped by age and supervised by certified school teachers. Guest professionals come from federal, state, and private agencies and universities. Thanks to major funding provided by the Burroughs Wellcome Fund Student Science Enrichment Program fees are low and scholarships available. Each camper will be provided a back pack, - snacks, an Eno bandana, water bottle, a notebook & pencils, an Eno River Field Station t-shirt, and daily meals and snacks. Camp fees include all supplies, equipment, and canoe rentals. TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS 1. Bus transportation will be available daily from Hillsborough Commons Shopping Center, 113 Mayo St, Hillsborough, NC 27278. Bus will load at 8:30AM. Bus will return students by 5:30PM daily to Hillsborough Commons. 2. Students may directly drop-off at the Confluence Natural Area between 8:45-9:00AM and must be picked up between 5-5:30PM. On Wednesday the students have the option of staying after 5PM for evening and night time programs on nocturnal wildlife activity. Programs will end at midnight and the students may either campout in the pavilion, bring tents to camp in, or return home (family will have to pick them up). Students may bring their own sleeping bags and pads or we can arrange for them. On Friday students will travel by bus from the Confluence to the Eno River Boat ramp near Treyburn in Durham County. There we will canoe to the three rivers area where the Eno and Flat rivers join to form the Neuse River. We will eat lunch on the river and do water quality and land management programs out there.
