Mark your calendars for Sunday, April 27, 2025, as Durham Central Park, located at 501 Foster Street, transforms into a hub of eco-friendly festivities for DPR’s Earth Day Festival. From 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., join fellow community members in celebrating planet Earth with a variety of activities designed to inspire and educate.
This year’s theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” highlights the incredible potential everyone has to help drive positive change for the environment. From individuals to communities, and businesses to governments, we all hold the power to create a sustainable future for everyone.
This year’s festival is highlighted by:
- Earth Day Market: Support local artisans and businesses committed to sustainability by exploring a variety of eco-friendly products and services.
- Way to Go Durham's Sustainable Transportation Expo: Brought to you by the City’s Department of Transportation and Bike Durham, the expo allows everyone to learn about sustainable transportation options, including viewing GoDurham’s new electric bus. Festivalgoers can also participate in youth bicycle workshops, and test riding electric bikes. The expo will feature multiple booths to showcase information on local and regional transportation projects and sustainable transportation options for your commutes around the Bull City and beyond.
- Valet Bicycle Parking and Check-Ups: Cycle to the festival and take advantage of free valet bicycle parking and safety checks provided by Durham’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission and Bike Durham.
- Free Document Shredding: Dispose of sensitive documents securely with our free shredding service from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. (or until full) at 412 Morris St. Provided by Durham Parks and Recreation, Durham’s Waste Management & Shimar Shredding, the City of Durham will provide services for shredding documents. Bring your paper documents to our drive-through area. We will be set up to collect your materials. These services are free and open to the public.
- Items that are okay to shred include office paper (any color), manila folders, staples, paper clips, rubber bands, and receipts.
- Items that are NOT OKAY to shred include: 3-ring binders, X-Rays, garbage of any kind, newspapers, credit cards, CDs, cardboard, magazines, telephone books, hardcover books, large binder clips, and spiral notebooks and hanging folders unless the metal has been removed.
- Zero-Waste Initiative: Contribute to a trash-free festival by utilizing our waste stations to sort, recycle, compost, and trade materials.
- H2O 2 Go: Stay hydrated by bringing your own bottle to refill at our on-site hydration station offering fresh drinking water.
- Family Fun Zone: Engage children with interactive environmental education activities and face painting, making it a perfect outing for families.
- Earth Day Parade: Join the festive parade featuring the Bull City Strutters. Lineup begins at 2:15 p.m., with the parade starting promptly at 2:30 p.m.
- Durham County Library Bookmobile: Visit the Bookmobile to sign up for a library card on-site and explore a world of knowledge.
