154th Anniversary Surrender Commemoration Event

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sat, 04/27/2019
Commemorating the largest surrender of Confederate forces at the end of the American Civil War

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Join us as we remember the events that occurred inside the home of James and Nancy Bennett 154 years ago. This year there will be a focus on the role of the USCT’s (United States Colored Troops) and how their role changed from the beginning of the war to the time of the surrender. There will also be special guided tours which will take the visitor inside the home to learn about the negotiations that took place in the parlor. Earl Ijames, from the Museum of History, will be on site to provide a lecture on the USCTs and David Silknat will lecture on his book: "Raising the White Flag: how surrender defined the American Civil War". There will be artifacts on display and items related to the USCT's available for sale in the gift shop.
