Calling all miniature historians! West Point on the Eno has created an event with you in mind. Time Traveling Tots is a series of events set for Spring 2025, for our youngest community members – up to age five.
We have three Time Traveling Tots events that will take place at West Point on the Eno Photo Museum, located at 5101 N. Roxboro Street. The first will happen on Thursday, March 20. The second is on Thursday, April 17, with the final one on Thursday, May 15.
Preschoolers will be introduced to the concept of history and the notion that people lived differently in times before them. In March we will talk about travel and transportation, then communication in April, and clothing in May.
Each iteration of the program includes a variety of activities including singing songs, reading a history-related story and completing an activity or craft. Activities are designed for ages 0-5. Siblings outside of the age range are welcome to attend but may not be able to participate in activities depending on available supplies. Guardians must remain with their children throughout the program.
This event was created to teach the littlest of community members the idea that society changes over time. With that in mind, we are dedicated to creating a welcoming environment. To us, this means:
- We invite kids to be kids! While we do our best to hold their attention and keep things exciting, we understand children get cranky and their attention spans change.
- We welcome you to stay the whole time or some of the time, and we can even pack the craft with you to-go if your little one would like to leave early.
- Water and a small snack are always acceptable to bring.
- Our goal is to reflect the rich diversity of Durham in our event – both the topics and the audience.
- We work hard to explore important historical topics, ensuring that a variety of community groups are represented.
- Our staff are professional site educators with backgrounds in history or related fields and have experience working with children of all ages and ability levels.
- We want to create connections. Time Traveling Tots is a wonderful opportunity for families to meet other community members. Share experiences, make new friends, and create lasting bonds while enjoying a fun and educational experience together.
Registration is required for each individual event. Register today here: Activity search | Online Services. There is a Resident Fee of $1.50 and a Non-resident Fee of $6.50 to participate in each event.
Our staff is always happy to chat about an upcoming event or any other ways in which they can assist the community. If you want to learn more about Time Traveling Tots, feel free to email Chelsea Kiefer, Program Assistant for Youth & Teen Education, at Chelsea.Kiefer@DurhamNC.gov.
