Typically, we showcase the Top 20 winners... but this year, in honor of KidsOutAndAbout.com's 21st birthday (we originally launched in June of 2001), we bring you the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area's

1. Urban Air Adventure Park

2. Museum of Life and Science
Located less than five miles from downtown Durham, the Museum of Life and Science is one of North Carolina’s top family destinations. Situated on 84-acres, our interactive science park includes a two-story science center, one of the largest butterfly conservatories on the East Coast and beautifully landscaped outdoor exhibits which are safe havens for rescued black bears, lemurs, and endangered red wolves. Other popular attractions include over 60 species of live animals, Dinosaur Trail, Ellerbe Creek Railway, and Into the Mist.

Today, the YMCA of the Triangle is one of the largest YMCAs in the country. 10. North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences
The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is the most-visited museum in the state and is the largest museum of its kind in the Southeast. Through our permanent and special exhibits, hands-on labs, educational programs and outdoor experiences, we provide guests of all ages with opportunities to get up close and personal with science and nature, from 67-million-year-old dinosaurs to day-old butterflies. 14. North Carolina Botanical Garden
The North Carolina Botanical Garden (NCBG), part of the University of North Carolina, is a 1,000-acre assemblage of display gardens and natural areas in and around Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Garden celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2016 and is nationally known as a center for the study, display, interpretation, and conservation of southeastern native plants. Through its educational, recreational, therapeutic horticulture, and research programs, it extends opportunities for connection with nature to people of all abilities and backgrounds.
15. Go Ape Zipline and Treetop Adventure
The Go Ape Treetop Adventure and Treetop Journey courses create a one-of-a-kind outdoor experience. These exciting high ropes courses include suspended obstacles, rope ladders, Tarzan swings and some truly epic ziplines.
More than a simple canopy tour, the Treetop Adventure takes between 2-3 hours to complete. Treetop Journey is a 1-hour activity, appropriate for all ages and a terrific introduction to an aerial adventure course. 21. Morehead Planetarium and Science Center
The Morehead Building houses the GSK Fulldome Theater, as well as the Science Stage, exhibits, and Morehead classrooms. The UNC Visitors Center, Morehead-Cain Foundation and UNC Morehead Observatory are also in the Morehead Building.Morehead's programs include classes for adults and children, special courses for teachers, summer camps for children, afterschool programs, memberships, public viewings of astronomical events and public lectures.
