1. Museum of Life and Science
Located less than five miles from downtown Durham, the Museum of Life and Science is one of North Carolina’s top family destinations. Situated on 84-acres, our interactive science park includes a two-story science center, one of the largest butterfly conservatories on the East Coast and beautifully landscaped outdoor exhibits which are safe havens for rescued black bears, lemurs, and endangered red wolves. 2. Urban Air Adventure Park - Raleigh

3. North Carolina Zoo
The North Carolina Zoo is your wildlife destination in 2020! Nestled in the heart of North Carolina, on, we provide 1,800 animals room to roam on 2,600 acres. All kinds of animals call the Zoo home!. Marvel at a herd of African elephants in their expansive habitat complete with a natural wading pool. 4. Pullen Park
This public park has it all! Experience paddle boat rentals, kiddie amusement park rides, outdoor theater, swimming, and a fantastic playground.
5. Marbles Kids Museum
At Marbles Kids Museum, kids are encouraged to use their marbles - learning new things through imagination, discovery and play.
6. Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University
The Nasher Museum is a major center for the arts. Since opening in 2005, the museum has organized and presented leading-edge exhibitions that travel worldwide. Dynamic family programs feature performing arts events, art-making activities and more. The museum also offers free guided gallery tours for K-12 students and their teachers. The Nasher Museum Café features local, seasonal ingredients. More than 1 million people have visited the museum since 2005. Free admission for all!
7. North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences
The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is the most-visited museum in the state and is the largest museum of its kind in the Southeast. Through our permanent and special exhibits, hands-on labs, educational programs and outdoor experiences, we provide guests of all ages with opportunities to get up close and personal with science and nature, from 67-million-year-old dinosaurs to day-old butterflies. General admission is free.
8. Kidzu Children's Museum
Kidzu Children’s Museum is a hands-on museum dedicated to inspiring young children and the adults in their lives to learn through creative, purposeful play. Kidzu’s 8,500 square foot space is multi-sensory, play-centered, and focused on providing area children and their families, teachers, and caregivers an ever-changing menu of exhibits and programs that inspire creativity, collaboration and community. Kidzu serves upwards of 70,000 visitors each year on-site (pre-pandemic), another 5,000+ through extensive community outreach and after-school programs, and thousands more virtually through its Virtual Museum initiatives. The North Carolina Museum of Art serves the people of North Carolina and all visitors as a premier destination for compelling encounters with art.
10. JC Raulston Arboretum
The JC Raulston Arboretum is a nationally acclaimed garden with one of the largest and most diverse collections of landscape plants adapted for landscape use in the Southeast. Plants especially adapted to Piedmont North Carolina conditions are collected and evaluated in an effort to find superior plants for use in southern landscapes.
11. My Local Library
Of course, the libraries in the Research Triangle area are not really ONE place, but MANY places... but it's important to emphasize how valuable libraries are for family learning and fun. 12. Frankie's Fun Park

13. Sky Zone Trampoline Park

Today, the YMCA of the Triangle is one of the largest YMCAs in the country. The YMCA of the Triangle offers resident camping, after school care, sports, fitness, mentoring and outdoor programs for children, teens, adults and families.
15. Piedmont Wildlife Center
Piedmont Wildlife Center is a non-profit environmental organization encouraging conservation and inspiring people to build lifelong connections with nature through immersive outdoor education, citizen science, and wildlife stewardship.
16. Go Ape Zipline and Treetop Adventure
The Go Ape Treetop Adventure and Treetop Journey courses create a one-of-a-kind outdoor experience. These exciting high ropes courses include suspended obstacles, rope ladders, Tarzan swings and some truly epic ziplines.
More than a simple canopy tour, the Treetop Adventure takes between 2-3 hours to complete. Treetop Journey is a 1-hour activity, appropriate for all ages and a terrific introduction to an aerial adventure course. Puzzle junkies can also challenge themselves with Forest EscAPE, Go Ape’s unique take on outdoor escape rooms.
17. North Carolina Botanical Garden
The North Carolina Botanical Garden (NCBG), part of the University of North Carolina, is a 1,000-acre assemblage of display gardens and natural areas in and around Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Garden celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2016 and is nationally known as a center for the study, display, interpretation, and conservation of southeastern native plants. Through its educational, recreational, therapeutic horticulture, and research programs, it extends opportunities for connection with nature to people of all abilities and backgrounds.
18. The Cary Theater
Built in 1946, The Cary property was once home to the town’s first indoor movie theater, which hosted live performances as well as films. The property was also used as a clothing store, auto parts store and recording studio. Now the marquee lights up Downtown Cary with the mission of providing a unique setting for cinema and live performance to enhance the cultural arts experience in Downtown Cary.
19. Cary Arts Center
The Cary Arts Center is the downtown hub of arts activity for Cary. Its historic legacy of education began in the 1870s when Town of Cary founder Allison Frances Page opened Cary Academy, which was officially charted with the state of North Carolina as Cary High School.
